A Comparative Study of Rituals in Functionalist Ethnographies

—Taking Argonauts of the Western Pacific and The Andaman Islanders as Examples

Abstract："Ritualisthelongest-lastingandmostancientactivityinthehistoryofhumancivilization.Duetoitsuniversalityin society，ithasbcomeanimporantfieldofstudyinanthropologyTakingArgonautsoftheWesterPacificandTheAndamanIslandersascases，thispaperanalyzesthesocialandculturalfunctionsanddiferencesofritualsinfunctionalistethnorapies.The KulaexchangeritualintheTrobriandslands，troughthecirculationofarmshelsandnecklacs，buildsaneconomicnetworkand strengthenssocialis，higlightingthematerialexchangeandthesymbolic meaningof ime.TheritualsofthAndamanIadrs，on theotherhand，evolearoudactiissuchasfunealsanddances，focusingonspiritalbelifsandgoupdentityeingtr viewsonlifeandteirelationshipwithnature.Diferentsocialtructures，envionments，andtraditionshaveshapedthedverseforms ofrituals：thefoeremphasiesoomicitegrationandsocialoder，hiletelatestrsesmotioalcomfortandomityo hesion.Althoughfunctionalistteoryhasadesignificantcontributionstolsticanalysis，itsstaticprspectiveneglectsdivdual agency and cultural dynamic changes， providing a space for reflection in subsequent research.
