Abstract: Using social network analysis (SNA) as the methodological approach and theoretical framework, this study examines the colective agency of five English majors in cooperative learning of academic English writing at a university in northeast China by collecting data from journals, questionnaires and interviews. The findings reveal that group members are positioned inan interactive network with high density and low centrality during cooperative learning,suggesting close relationships among members and relatively equal influence. Additionally, the collective agency of the group primarily manifests through intellectual support and emotional support among its members. Specifically,intellectual support involves activities such as resource sharing,group discussions and collaborative division of labor,while emotional support encompasses mutual encouragement,snack sharing,venting and chats,and engaging in group activities.This study ofers insights into student participation and teacher guidance in collaborative learning.
