Abstract:Thisarticleadoptstheperspectiveoffoodanthropologytostudyherigins,customs,andculturalcharacteristcsoffsh consumptionamong theDongethnicgroupinhabitingthemountainousandhillregionsofsouthernChina.TheDongpeople’spracticeof eatingfishhasalonghistory,efletingtheiruniquegeogaphicalenvironmentandrichculturaltraditions.Living inareasabundantnwaterresources,theDongpeopleregardfishasanimportantingredietTroughfishingandaquaculturepractices,theyhaveintegateish intotheirdailydietanddevelopeddiversecokingmethods.Teirfshrelatedustomsexemplifyreverencefornatureandacomientto ecologicalconseationDuringtraditionalfestivalsdajorcelebrations,fssersothasarialferingandadlcacysboling prosperityandauspiciousess,whileexpressingaspirationsfoafulfilingife.Moreovr,fishimageryfrequntlapearsinDongfolk songsandlegends,ecominganimportantsybolofculturalidentityTisstudyrevealsthatfishisnotmerelyacorecompontofthe Dong food culture,but also a vivid embodiment of their history,customs,and harmonious coexistence with nature.
