From Chinese Han Shan Poems to American Cold Mountain Poems
—Charles Rossiter's Transplantation and Localization of Han Shan Poems

Abstract: Han Shan poetry was first translated into the United States in the l93Os and became popular among American intellectuals,especially young poets,in the 195Os.With the constant translation, dissemination and acceptance of Han Shan poetry in the United States,a group of American poets have created“Han Shan poems” since the 199Os: Charles Rositer, one of the group members published his poetry Cold Mountain 2Ooo: Han Shan in the City in the new century, which transplanted Chinese Han Shan poems in four categories: persuasion poems, seclusion poems, following-fate poems,and poems on poetics.The theme,language and style of poetry reflected the transplantation of Han Shan poetry. During the process, Rossiter localized and rewritten them as American Cold Mountain Poems, which has enabled Han Shan poetry to be successfully infused into American literature. Thus, reference for Sino-American literary exchange and the overseas spread of Chinese literature and culture.
