Prediction of Unknown Pollution Sources Based on Groundwater Numerical Model

Abstract:Theprimarytask inremediating contaminated site groundwater is to pinpoint polution source locations and achievecompleteremoval.Withtheintroductionofthe“Dual Carbon”goals,economicallyandaccuratelydetermining the locationand concentration ofpollution sources has becomeparamount.Groundwater solute transport simulation,valued foritseectiveness,flexiilityandost-ciency,asmergedasaciticalmethodologyigoundwateresearchUsing ahigh-precision machining factory in Guangdong provinceasacase study,Perchloroethylene (PCE)was selectedas the simulation factor.Visual MODFLOW software was employed for numerical modeling and parameter calibration of the site.Simulationresults indicated hidden point source contamination near monitoring welsMW-B7,W3,and W9,with contamination intensitiesof5,20,and5Omg/L,respectively.Tovalidatemodelreliability,fieldsampling monitoring compared simulation outputs with actual monitoring data.Results demonstrated high consistency,with the model sucessfullypredicting contaminationleakage pathwaysnear the threewells—findings thataligned withthesite'shistorical productionrecords.This successful predictionof hidden polution sources establishesavaluable reference forsimilar remediation projects.
