Pricing Analysis of Autonomous and Traditional Ride-Hailing Vehicles Based on Stackelberg Game Model

Abstract: The development of autonomous ride-hailing vehicles is reshaping the pattern of the travel market.However,its technical safety controversy and the employment contradiction of traditional ridehailing drivers need to be solved urgently. The Stackelberg model between autonomous and traditional ride-hailing vehicles based on the demand function of passengers’expected valuation is established to explore optimal pricing equilibrium solutions under profit maximization and analyze the impacts of subsidy levels,technical safety and comfort coefficients,and traditional drivers’ wages through numerical simulation. The study reaches the following conclusions:The“l(fā)ow-price and high-subsidy” strategy for autonomous ride-hailing vehicles is only effective in the short term; in the long term,pricing must shift to cover the costs associated with technological development.Passengers’perceived technical safety and comfort coefficients influence the pricing of both types of ride-hailing through the driver salary threshold.Specifically,when driver salaries exceed a certain threshold,the optimal pricing of ride-hailing decreases as the technical safety and comfort coefficients increase;conversely,if driver salaries are below this threshold,the optimal pricing increases with higher technical safety and comfort coeficients. The revenue of both types of ride-hailing exhibits a U-shaped relationship with driver salaries.When driver salaries surpass a certain threshold,revenue increases with higher salaries; otherwise, revenue decreases as salaries rise. These findings provide decision-making references for the sustainable development of autonomous ride-hailing vehicles and their competition and cooperation with traditional ride-hailing platforms.
