Research on the Impact of ESG Performance on Manufacturing Employment： Evidence from A-Share Listed Companies

Abstract：The concept of ESG is highly consistent with China’s new development concept，and has gradually become a key strategy to promote high-quality economic development. From the perspective of manufacturing，this paper analyzes the relationship between the ESG performance of manufacturing enterprises and their employment level by taking China’s A-share listed manufacturing enterprises from 2009 to 2O22 as a research sample. Research shows that improved ESG performance has significantly improved employment levels in manufacturing firms. The mechanism test shows that ESG performance improves the employment level of manufacturing enterprises through two mechanisms： the effect of production scale expansion and the alleviation of financing constraints. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the efect of ESG advantages in promoting employment in manufacturing enterprises is more significant in the central and western regions，state-owned enterprises and labor-intensive enterprises.This paper highlights the positive impact of ESG performance on the employment level of manufacturing enterprises，and provides a policy reference for achieving the goal of high-quality and full employment in China.
