Board Fault Zone and Firms’ New-Quality Productivity : A Dual Perspective Based on Patent Competition and Cooperation Network

Abstract:The ability of enterprises to effectively enhance new quality productivity is significantly influenced by the board of directors.Taking listed companies in China from 2O15 to 2O22 as samples，this paper explores the impact of board faultlines on the development of new quality productivity in enterprises.The results show that board faultlines have a significant promoting effect on the new quality productivity of enterprises. After a series of rigorous robustness tests，this conclusion remains stable. The results of the moderating efect indicate that the patent cooperation network strengthens the positive impact of board faultlines on the new quality productivity of enterprises，while the patent competition network weakens this relationship.The mechanism analysis reveals that board faultlines can promote the development of new quality productivity in enterprises by improving the quality of corporate governance.The heterogeneity analysis finds that task-oriented board faultlines are conducive to the development of new quality productivity in enterprises，while physiological-oriented board faultlines have no significant impact on it. When the Confucian cultural atmosphere and resource allocation efficiency of enterprises are higher， board faultlines have a more significant positive impact on the new quality productivity of enterprises. This provides a theoretical basis for listed companies to optimize the structure of the board of directors，strengthen cooperative innovation，and thereby enhance new quality productivity.
