Comparison Between Grafted Eggplant and Self-Rooted Eggplant Planted in Clay Soil

Abstract：Comparativecultivationtrialswerecarredoutforgraftedeggplant （withSolamumtorvumasthestockand'Heiyuanba （204號 asthe scion）andself-rootedeggplant inclaysoilareas insouthe Hunan.Thegrowthanddevelopment，fruit appearancequality rotraits，yieldanddiseasersistancewereompared.Tesultsshowedtatgfedeggplanthadtrongergowthotealthan self-rooted eggplantatthe middleand late stagesof development.The plant heightand crown diameterof grafted eggplant were significantlyhigher tantoseofself-roted egplantatthepeak fruitingstageandendharvesting stage.Gafted eggplantandselfrootedegplantshowedthesamefruitshape，fruit skincolor，andfeshcolor.Thefruitsperplantofgraftedegplantwere more than thoseofself-rotedegplantobviously.Thehigh-yieldingstageofgraftedeggplantconcentratedatthemiddleandlatestage.The rootsofgraftedeggplant wereasiertogowinclaysoil，witheumber，verticaldepthndtrasversediameterofteralroots andthetransversediameterofcapilaryrotssignificantlyigherthanthoseofself-rootedeggplant.Inconclusio，graftedeggplant outperformedotdgpntinntgowthotetialfruitppeaanealitytotalyielddotdaptabiltAcodglyt is worthwhile to popularize the planting of grafted eggplant in clay soil in southern Hunan.
