Research progress on the construction of edible composite films of plant essential oils and theirapplicationinthepreservationoffruitsandvegetables

AbstractTheapplication of plant esential oil composite membranes inthe field of fruit andvegetable preservation was summarized,and the construction of three edible composite membranes,namelychitosan composite membranes,protein composite membranes,and sodium alginate composite membranes,as wellas the research progress of theirapplications in fruit and vegetable preservationwerereviewed.Plant esential oilsare green and natural preservatives for fruitsandvegetables.They possessbiological activities such asantioxidationand antibacterial properties,andare widelyused in the preservation offruits and vegetables.The application formsof plant essential oil composite films mainly include coating films and packaging films.Their development has solved the problems of poor stabilityandeasyvolatilityofplant essentialoils,andhasshowngoodstorageand preservation efectsinthe preservation of various fruitsand vegetables.The selectionofedible membranes mainly focuses on materials such aschitosan,protein, and sodium alginate.The combination of twoor more materials enhances the comprehensive performance of the composite membranes.The three types of composite films,namely the edible composite film of plant essential oil - chitosan,theediblecomposite filmof plant esentialoil-protein,and theediblecompositefilmof plant essentialoilsodiumalginate,allhaveexcellentantibacterialactivity,whichgreatlyextendstheshelflifeoffruitsandvegetablesand canbetter maintain thecontentof nutrients in fruitsand vegetables.They have broadapplication prospects in the preservationoffruitsand vegetables.Thisarticleprovides areferencefor expanding theapplicationofplant essentialoils.
