Abstract: Black and white illustration has always had a unique visual language and composition form in many types of illustration. As a master of subverting traditional black and white illustration, Sergio Toppi’s black and white illustrations have a unique formal beauty. This paper analyzes the formal rules behind Sergio Toppi’s unique black-and-white illustration style by discussing the formal language characteristics of his black-and-white illustrations and the composition rules of the picture.
