Economic Assessment and Analysis ofLow-Carbon Power System Retrofits for Ships on EU Routes

Abstract: By analyzing key factors influencing decarbonization in the shipping industry,this study establishes an economic assessment method for low-carbon power system retrofits of ships operating on EU routes.A case study of an in-service VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) is presented, comparing annual fuel composition and cost expenditures over its remaining lifecycle under three retrofit pathways: carbon-neutral methanol,carbon-neutral ammonia,and carbon-neutral diesel.The results demonstrate that the proposed assessment method provides a scientific reference for decision-making in low-carbon retrofits.
