Abstract:Chromiumisaheavymetal widelyused inindustriessuchasleathertanning,electroplating,metalurgy,and textiles.The discharge of hexavalent chromium during production and usage poses a serious threat to the environment and human health.In this study,recycled paper shell fibers and FeCl3 are used as raw materials to prepare a paper fiber/zero-valent iron composite aerogel (CA/ZVI)via a liquid-phase reduction method for the removal of Cr(‰ from water.SEM,XRD,TG,BET,XPSandotheranalyticaltechniquesareused toharacterizethemorphology,structureand element composition of CA/ZVI.Theeffectsof initial solution pH and the amount of adsorbent on Cr (VI)removal are investigated,andtheadsorptionperformanceofCA/ZVIaerogelisstudied.Theresultsshowthattheaerogelhasanetwork porous structure,with a pore size of 0.1-0.3mm ,aspecific surface area of ,and zero valent iron particles uniformly distribute on the surface of the aerogel.In the optimal conditions,the removal rateof byaerogelcanreach 96.4% .The removal process is primarily dominated by the adsorption of Cr(M) ,while a portion of Cr(M) is reduced to Cr(I) ,which means that CA/ZVI can reduce toxicity of Cr(M) while removing it.
