Research on the Construction of TCM Image in China's International Media Discourse

-A Corpus-based Analysis of News Reports in China Daily ZU Le，KANG Yong

Abstract：Based on the news reportson Traditional Chinese Medicine（TCM）from China Daily between 2014 and 2023，this paper explores the image construction of traditional Chinese medicine in foreign media discourse fromthree levels：macro（topic model），meso（word co-occurrence network）and micro（index lineand context） with the helpofcorpus linguisticsand critical discourse analysis.Thestudy found that China Daily established three major themes of TCM eficacy，cultural communication and industrial development through news discourse， and shaped three TCM images：“powerful weapon”ofhealing and saving people，“image ambassador”of cultural communicationand“important pilar”of industrial development.These images reflectthe long-term“people -o 1 riented”health concept and development concept of TCM，demonstrating the confidenceof the Chinese governmentand people in TCMculture and the great importance theyattch to theexchange and development of TCM culture.The research hascertain reference value and guiding significance for the dissemination of traditional Chinese culture and promoting the international exchange and dissemination of traditional Chinese medicine.
