Experimental Study on Non-Ultimate Soil Pressure of Rigid Retaining WallUnderCombined DisplacementMode

Abstract: [Purposes] To investigate the influence of different displacement modes of retaining walls on thedistribution patern of non-ultimate active soil pressure on the wall.[Methods]A self-made model box was used to conduct experimental studies on non-ultimate active soil pressure under three displacement modes of retaining walls: translation (T mode),rotation around the botom of the wall with translation (RBT mode),and rotation around the top of the wall with translation (RTTmode).[Findings] The experimental results indicate that non-ultimate active soil pressure is significantly influenced by both the displacement mode and magnitude of the retaining wall,and the non-ultimate active soil pressure Varies significantly with displacement at different zones; in Tmode,the soil pressure changes most significantly within the displacement range of 0\~ .0.65sc and 0~0.5H ; in RBT mode, the soil pressure changes most significantly within the range of displacement 0~0.55sc and 0.2~0.8H ;In RTT mode, the soil pressure changes most significantly within the range of displacement 0~0.71sc and 0.45~1H ; The RBT mode has thelargest displacement at 0.56%H ,followedbytheRTT modeat 0.44%H ,andtheTmodehasthe smallest displacement at 0.31%H. [Conclusions] Compare and analyze the measured values of soil pressure on retaining wals under three diferent displacement modes with the theoretical calculated values, and identify zones where the main erors may occur when using theoretical formulas for calculation in similar projects.
