Abstract:Althoughurbandomesticwastewater teatmentreducespolltantemissions,thegreenhousegasemisions generatedduring this periodalsoforceus tore-evaluate theenvironmentalbenefitsofpollutionandcarbonreduction.BasedontheIPCCinventory methodandthefullifecycle method,thispaperconstructsacarbon-polutionacounting modelforurbandomesticwastewater treatmentandcomprehensivelyevaluatesthepolutionreductionbenefitsandgrenhousegasmisionsduringthetreatmentperiodin Guangdong Province.Theresultsshowthatoverthepast2Oyears,theurbanwastewatertreatmentrate inGuangdong Province has increasedby3.22times,andthereductioninCOD,totalnitrogen,andtotalphosphorushasicreasednarlytenfold,whichhas

efectivelyreducedtheenvironmentalpolutionload,contributing totheimprovementofthewaterenvironmentinGuangdong Province.However,wastewatertreatmenthasgeneratedfivefoldgreenhousegas(GHG)emisions,becomingasignificantsource. Additionally,the intensity of GHG emissions has decreased by about 50% ,and the indirect GHG reduction benefits from pollutant reduction have increased by about 1.8 times.These findings imply that the improvement of facilities can help urban domestic wastewatetreatmentyieldmoreenvironmentalbenefits.Itisrecommendedtonhancetheuseofcleanenergyandcarbonrecoveryto improve the synergistic control capability of GHG and pollution emissions in the future.
