Discussion on lightning grounding design for process systems in gas pipeline valve chambers

Abstract:Inpipelievalvechambersequippedwithcathodicprotectionsystems,directgroundingisnotalowedtopreventteleakage of thecatodicprotectioncurrnt.Teexposedstlpipelinesforlghtningprotectionedtoegroundedceatingacoflicths studyreviewedcurrentstandardsandspecificationsrelatedtolghtningprotectionantistaticmeasures,ndcathodicprotetionand summarizedthelightninggroundingrequirementsforrelevantfaclitiesinthevalvechambers.Toresolvetheaboveconflict,aethod involvingisoateddischargegapgroundingforexposed pipelines wasproposed.Byanalyzing thevoltagewithstandlevelsofmaterialsin the processsystemsandcathodicprotectionsystems inthevalvechambers,theprotectivevoltagelevelfortheisolateddischargegap groundingofpipelineswasdetermined.Thenumberofisolateddischargegapswascalculatedbasedonthelghtningcurentdiversion coeficient.Acomprehensivelghtninggroundingdesignschemeforprocessystems invalvechamberswasdeveloped.Byestablishing mathematicalodelsforteprocsstems,ightinguret,andiolateddischargegapsinalvechambers,teoreticallation calculationsecodctedtestesiallghtgdshaevolageoelpipes,isuatigjintsdstattal devices,awellasthlngurrntpassingtoughtesolateddscargegaps.Tiulationsultserifdteivsand feasibility of the proposed design.
