[Abstract]Atherosclerosis (AS)isacomplexvasculardisease characterizedbylipiddepositionandtheaccumulatioof inflammatorycellwithinthearterialwall,oftenleadingtoadversecardiovascularandcerebrovascularevents.Inrecentyears, vascularsmoth musclecell(VSMC)phenotypicswitching,particularlytetransitionfromtheontractiletothesyntheticphenotype, hasbeenrecognizedasakeymechanism inASprogresionContractile VSMCsprimarilymaintainvasculartoneandstructural stability,werassthticVshitanedsreoryproiferative,ndgatoyapacitis,trebypromotingpatolical vascularremodeling.InTCMtheorythefunctionalcharacteristicsofcontractileVSMCscanbeanalogizedto"yang",whilethe biosyntheticactivityofsytheticVMCscorespondsto"yin",Tedynamictransformationbetweethephenotypescoresods,to acertainextent,withtheTCMpathogenetictheoryof"yangdeficiencyandyinexcess".Basedonthis,thestudyintegratesthe
TCMtheorywithmoderncelularandmolecularmechanismstoinvestigatetheroleofVSMCphenotypicswitchingintheAS pathogenesis.Aditionaly,itsystematicallyeviewsTCMherapeuticprinciplesandmethods,ndthemechanismsandmolecular targetsofvarioussingleherbalcompoundsandformulasinregulating VSMCphenotypicswitchingandinhibitingabnormal proiferationandmigration.Thisstudyaimstoprovidenewinsightsforboththeclinicalmanagementandfundamentalresearchof AS while offering a unique perspective on the role of VSMCs in AS from the standpoint of TCM.
