Abstract:Six cloned cultivars ofYunnan large-leaf tea plants were usedasscions,andthe same clonal tea cultivar was used as rootstocks for grafting.The contents of four routine quality components and leaf characters of tea plants propagated bycutting and grafting werecompared to understand the efectof grafting on the quality components and agronomic traits.Theresults show that thecontents of water-soluble extractand tea polyphenols were increased,while thatoftotalfree aminoacids was decreasedafter grafting inallsix testedteacultivars.Theleaflengthand widthof the grafted plants were higher thanthatof thecuttings.Thecafeine content,changeof veins numbers,length of new shoot withone budand two leaves and weightof1obuds varied bycultivars.However,there was noobvious change in nonquantitative indicators such as leaf shape,leaf surface and color of buds and leaves.
