[Abstract]ObjectiveThis studyaimed tocompare thedifferences inclinical attachment level (CAL),periodontal probing depth (PPD),gingivalrecesion(GR),andbone defect depth (BDD)between patients undergoing periodontalsurgeries withand without mesenchymal stemcells (MSCs)andto evaluate the clinical efficacyofMSCs in periodontal regenerationthroughameta-analysis.MethodsPubMed,CochraneLibrary,Embase,Scopus,CNKI,Wanfang Data,and
CBMwere comprehensively searched for randomized controlled studies (RCTs) about MSC therapy for periodontal defectsin patientswith periodontitisuptoApril 1,224.Literature selection,data collection,and evaluationofbiaswereconductedbytworesearchers independently,and thendata were analyzed through RevMan
5.4 software and Stata15.1 software.ResultsSix studies were enrolled.The meta-analysis results showed that the experimental group had more significant improvement in CAL and decrease in PPD and BDD ( P< . 5 ) .However, nosignificant difference was found in efficacy between the two groups in terms of GR ( ).Conclusion Compared with traditionalperiodontalregeneration methods,theapplicationofMSCs mayhavesomeadvantages.However,potential heterogeneityamong theincludedRCTsandlimitations onthequantityandqualityofthese studies necessitatecautious interpretationofthe findings.Further high-qualityRCTs withalarge sample size andamulticentral characterarerequiredto prove the efficacy of MSCs in periodontal regeneration.
