Denitrification Nitrogen Removal Performances of Zeolite-Iron-Carbon Packing Biological Slow Filters for Surface Water

Abstract:Aimingattheproblemof nitratepolutionin surface water,aself-made zeolite-iron-carbon packing biological slowfilter wasapplied fordenitrification treatmentofnitrate nitrogen.Bycomparing ratioof chemicaloxygendemand to total nitrogenmassconcentration,carbonsource,and filtrationrateonefluent waterqualityofthe biological slow filter, theoptimal processoperating conditionsof thebiological slowfilter were determined,anddenitrificationnitrogenremoval performances of the biological slow filterat low temperature were evaluated.Theresultsshow that undertheoptimal process operating conditions of rom temperature,theratioof chemical oxygen demand tototal nitrogen massconcentration of 4.0 , glucose as the carbon source,and the filtration rate of 0.10m/h , the mass concentration of nitrate nitrogen inthe water effluent of the biological slow filter remains stable at about 1.26mg/L ,whose denitrification nitrogen removal performancesare beter compared with traditional biological denitrification nitrogen removal technology.The waterquality indexesof permanganate index andnitrite nitrogen,ammonianitrogen aswellas total iron massconcentrations are alin line with theClassII surface water standards innational standardGB3838—2O02Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water.Atlow temperature,except permanganate index,massconcentrations of the other 4 waterquality indexes are inline with theClas IIsurface water standards in GB3838—2OO2,and theefluent water quality isstable.There arealarge numberofbacteriarelated todenitrificationinthebiological slow filter.Pickling modifiedzeoliteand ironcarbon fillrcan providegoodlivingconditions fordenitrificationbacteriaflora,andironautotrophicdenitrificationbacteria and heterotrophic denitrification bacteria coexist.
