Nitrogen Contents and Isotopes of Mosses for Indicating Atmospheric Nitrogen Deposition at Mount Tai and Mount Meng

Abstract:To investigate thespatial characteristicsand polution sources of regional atmospheric nitrogendeposition, nitrogencontentsand nitrogen isotope valuesof mosss were used to establish an isotope mass-balance model to estimate thelevelsand sourcesof atmosphericnitrogen polutionat Mount Taiand Mount Meng.Theresults showthatthere is no significant diference for nitrogen contents in mosss between Mount Tai and Mount Meng.However,nitrogen isotope values in mosses at Mount Meng are significantly more negative than those at Mount Tai.Wet nitrogen deposition fluxes are and at Mount Tai and Mount Meng,respectively. The fluxes of wet nitrogen deposition at Mount Taiand Mount Mengare higher than thresholdsof wet nitrogendeposition for heatherand acidic coniferous forests,which are and ,respectively,which suggests that Mount Tai and Mount Meng areareas under high nitrogen deposition.The mainsourcesof atmospheric nitrogen deposition in the two regionsare diffrent.NitrogendepositioninMount Tai issignificantlyafectedbyurbannitrogensources,withhighlevels of nitrate nitrogen deposition.Nitrogendeposition in Mount Meng ismainly influenced byagricultural nitrogen sources, and its ammonium nitrogen deposition fluxes are much higher than those of nitrate nitrogen deposition flux.
