Risk factors for diarrhea after renal transplantation：a Meta-analysis

AbstractObjective：To systematically review the risk factors of diarrhea in renal transplant recipients，and to provide a theoretical basis for early screening and preventive intervention of diarrhea after renal transplantation.Methods：Relevant articles on the risk factors of diarrhea in renal transplant recipients were searched from CNKI，WanFang Database，VIP，SinoMed，PubMed，Web of Science，EMbase，and the Cochrane Library databases，and the time frame of the search was from the establishment of the database to April 2023.Screening，quality assessment，and data extraction were performed by two researchers according to literature inclusion and exclusion criteria，and Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 and STATA 17.0 software.Results：A total of 19 articles including 10 case-control studies，5 cohort studies and 4 cross-sectional studies involving 46 085 renal transplant recipients and 8 221 patients with diarrhea were included.Meta-analysis showed that age，gender，type of primary renal disease，co-morbid diabetes mellitus，pre-transplantation length of dialysis，history of acute immune rejection，history of delayed graft function，type of transplant donor kidney，tacrolimus and its drug concentration，types of calcineurin inhibitors and anti-thymocyte globulin were independent risk factors for diarrhea in renal transplant recipients，whereas previous transplantation，mycophenolate mofetil，corticosteroids and proton pump inhibitor were not associated with diarrhea in renal transplant recipients.Conclusion：The risk factors for diarrhea in renal transplant recipients are extensive，and healthcare professionals should screen early and implement early interventions to reduce the incidence of diarrhea and prolong renal transplant organ survival.
