Title： A Study on the Translation and Dissemination of Western Sociological Knowledge in Journal of Sociology

Abstract： In the 192Os and 193Os， the establishment and development of sociology journals was an important symbol of the institutionalization of sociology in China. Sociology in China is an imported discipline and professional journals play an important role in the process of introducing foreign knowledge.This study focuses on the Journal of Sociology， the most prestigious sociology journal in the Republic China （1912-1949）. This paper， from the perspective of knowledge dissemination， discusses the features and significance of the three text types， namely ‘theory” and "biography”，“book review”and“research article” in the process of translation and dissemination of western sociology. We find the three text types，as encyclopedic， critical and theoretical knowledge texts respectively，shows differentiated features of translation and dissemination of western sociological knowledge.
