Systematic review of the effectiveness of virtual reality intervention on symptoms related to the post-ICU syndrome

Abstract  Objective：Evaluate the impact of virtual reality intervention on symptoms related to the post intensive care unit（ICU） syndrome .Methods：Computer searches were conducted on 8 databases including CNKI and PubMed.The retrieval time was from the inception to April 20，2022.Two researchers independently conducted literature screening，data extraction，and literature quality evaluation based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.Results：A total of 10 articles were included，including 7 randomized controlled trials and 3 non randomized controlled trials.There are 9 English articles and 1 Chinese article，and the overall quality of the included literature is relatively high.The intervention of virtual reality in ICU patients and patients transferred out of ICU has shown initial results，which was beneficial for improving patients′ mental health，cognitive and physiological functions.Conclusion：Current evidence shows that virtual reality has a certain intervention effect，safety，and feasibility on post-ICU syndrome related symptoms.However，in the future，further improvement of virtual reality intervention plans is needed and large-scale randomized controlled trials are conducted to further verify the above results.
