Therapeutic effect of acupuncture combined with medicine on vascular dementia：a Meta-analysis

AbstractObjective：To comprehensively evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture combined with medicine in the treatment of vascular dementia.Methods：Randomized controlled trials of acupuncture and drug combination therapy for vascular dementia were searched from PubMed，CNKI，VIP，CBM，WanFang Database.The search period was from the establishment of the database to March 2022.Literature screening，data extraction，and quality evaluation were conducted based on inclusion and exclusion criteria，and Meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3 software.Results：A total of 13 articles were included，involving 1 064 patients.The Meta-analysis results showed that the treatment effectiveness（RR＝1.28，95％CI 1.20-1.37，P＜0.000 01）and MMSE score of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group（MD＝3.35，95％CI 2.18-4.51，P＜0.000 01），while the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome score was lower than that of the control group（MD＝－3.54，95％CI －4.46-－2.63，P＜0.000 01）.According to different ADL scoring standards，when the higher the ADL score，the better，the ADL score of the experimental group is better than that of the control group（MD=7.99，95%CI 6.14-9.83，P＜0.000 01）;When the ADL score is lower，the better.The ADL score of the experimental group is better than that of the control group（MD=－8.80，95%CI －12.40-－5.19，P＜0.000 01），and the differences are statistically significant.Conclusion：Existing evidence shows that acupuncture combined with medicine is significantly better than drug alone in terms of treatment efficiency，improvement of patients′ cognitive function，daily living ability and TCM syndroms.However，due to the influence of sample size and quality of included studies，more large samples and high-quality randomized controlled trials are still needed to further verify the efficacy of acupuncture combined with medicine in the treatment of vascular dementia.
