Summary of the best evidence affecting the efficacy of chlorhexidine in preventing catheter-related bloodstream infection in critically ill patients

AbstractObjective：To retrieve and evaluate the relevant evidence that affects the effect of chlorhexidine on the prevention of catheter-associated bloodstream infection（CRBSI） in critically ill patients，and to summarize to provide an evidence-based basis for clinical care.Methods：According to the 6S evidence resource pyramid model，guidelines，evidence summary，systematic review，expert consensus，recommended practices，best practices on prevention of CRBSI in critically ill patients with chlorhexidine were searched from databases，guide network and other related websites.The retrieval time was from inception to October 1，2021.The included literature was screened and evaluated，and the evidence affecting the final infection effect was extracted.Results：A total of thirteen articles were included，including 3 guidelines，8 systematic reviews，1 evidence summary，and 1 expert consensus.A total of 18 pieces of best evidence were extracted，involving intervention method，intervention frequency，intervention time，diagnostic criteria，intervention object，intervention site，and adverse reactions 7 aspects.Conclusion：This study summarized the best evidence affecting the effect of chlorhexidine on the prevention of CRBSI in critically ill patients.It is suggested that the clinical application of evidence should be adjusted according to the actual conditions of medical conditions and patients，so as to ensure the safety of patients.
