Abstract:Oceaniccarbon fluxconstitutesa critical component of the global carboncycleand fundamentalyinforms climate change modeling and prediction. The advent oflight detectionand ranging(LiDAR)remote sensing has gradualy revolutionizedoceaniccarbonfluxmeasurementsbyproviding highspatiotemporal resolutions,precision,andreal-time monitoringcapabies.Thisreviewevaluates recent advances in LiDAR-based monitoringof diurnal-nocturnal oceanic carbon flux dynamics. We examine the fundamental principles, methodological approaches, and technical challenges associated withLiDARapplications in carbon fluxquantficationacross theair-sea interface.Aditionally, weidentify knowledge gapsand propose futureresearch directions toenhance theeficacyof LiDARtechnology incharacterizing temporal variability in oceanic carbon sequestration.
