Can knots be a kind of art？ Of course， at least in China.

A Chinese knot is a knot made of a rope， taking on different shapes. Each shape has its own meaning，and nowadays you can find them as decorations and gifts for special days.

Early people may have made them to record information and send messages before they were able to write. Tools that are one hundred thousand years old and were probably used to make knots have been found. Moreover， knots are also found in some ancient texts. But it isn't known when they started to be used as decorations or gifts.
