Research on Class-E power amplifier based capacitive power transfer system with constant voltage output and wide-range ZVS

Abstract:To address the issue that the output and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) characteristics of ClassE power amplifiers in capacitive power transfer(CPT) systems are afected by the load impedance and circuit parameters,the quasi-constant voltage and wide-range ZVS characteristics of a CPT system were investigated based on a Class-E power amplifier.Numerical,frequency-domain,and time-domain modeling approaches were employed to establish mathematical models of the high-frequency full-bridge rectifier,capacitive coupler,and Class-E power amplifier. Furthermore,the critical ZVS condition equations and constant-voltage output conditions for the Class-E power amplifier were formulated. Then a parameter design and diode selection methods were proposed to achieve quasi-constant voltage output and wide-range ZVS operation. A 72 W prototype was established,and experimental results show that the system maintains soft-switching operation with an output voltage fluctuation rate of only 6.68% across a load range of to ,while achieving a peak efficiency of 88.0% . These experimental results validate effectiveness of the proposed system design and device selection approach.
