Effect of acupressure on postoperative pain and knee function in patients with total knee arthroplasty：a Meta-analysis

Abstract  Objective：To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupressure on postoperative pain and functional recovery in patients with total knee arthroplasty.Methods：Relevant studies were retrieved from PubMed，EMbase，the Cochrane Library，WanFang Database，CNKI and VIP.The literature was screened independently by two researchers and reviewed according to the Cochrane Handbook of Systematic Reviews.Riview Manager 5.3 software was used for Meta-analysis.Results：A total of 17 articles were included.The results of Meta-analysis showed that compared with conventional nursing，acupressure could effectively relieve pain ≤3 days after surgery（MD=－0.85，95％CI －1.39-－0.31，P=0.002），>3-7 days after surgery（MD=－1.22，95％CI －1.77-－0.67，P＜0.000 1），and >7 days after surgery（MD=－1.03，95％CI －1.67-－0.40，P=0.001）.Acupressure can effectively improve knee joint function≤7 days after surgery（MD=7.58，95％CI 1.47-13.70，P=0.02），>7-14 days after surgery（MD=4.96，95％CI 3.20-6.73，P＜0.000 01），and>14 days after surgery（MD=6.13，95％CI 4.03-8.23，P＜0.000 01）.Acupressure can effectively improve knee joint motion≤3 days after surgery（MD=10.04，95％CI 3.09-16.99，P=0.005），>3-7 days after surgery（MD=10.65，95％CI 6.09-15.21，P＜0.000 01），and>7 days after surgery（MD=8.59，95％CI 5.49-11.68，P＜0.000 01）.Acupoint massage can effectively reduce the incidence of postoperative complications（OR=0.32，95％CI 0.16-0.62，P=0.000 8）.Conclusion：The existing evidence shows that acupressure has good clinical effect on patients after TKA surgery.Due to certain limitations of this study，the results of this study need to be further verified.
